LEVEL OF PLAY

SHETLAND BASEBALL - T-BALL

OVERVIEW

LEVEL AGES: 4 / 5 / 6

PLAY: BOYS AND GIRLS (Co-Ed)

Shetland is open to boys and girls to participate on the same teams in a co-ed environment. Shetland features baseball play with the use of a batting T. T-Ball is an engaging instructional level designed to introduce 4, 5, and 6 year-old children to the essential fundamentals of playing baseball. This program is perfect for all young players who are new to the game and eager to learn or just want to further their abilities and skills in becoming a complete ball player.

Our primary focus is on instruction and enjoyment rather than competition. Coaches remain actively involved on the field, providing valuable guidance during the game to help foster skill development and confidence. 4 outfielders are used to ensure all players are playing 100% of every inning. Each player is encouraged to explore various positions, ensuring that everyone participates on the field throughout the entire game.

At bat, we focus on teaching the players how to improve their eye-hand coordination on a non-moving ball. Every young athlete has the opportunity to take their turn each inning at hitting the ball into play. At the Shetland T-Ball Level, there are NO official outs recorded each inning, creating a supportive environment where every child's contributions count, making them have a meaningful part of every inning. Runs are NOT counted since there is no Winners or Losers of these games. Being geared for instructional play only, plays made by the athletes are celebrated by all players as a part of learning about playing with sportsmanship, while building a sense of what it means to be playing the game and why it is played.

Come and Join us for a season of fun, learning, and experiencing the love of the game with your young ball player!

" Calimesa NOW has Baseball and Softball for the Community Youth. For the first time ever, Calimesa kids ages 4 to 17 can learn to play baseball and softball with their friends, and play for the pride of their home town. CYBS sincerely hope we have the opportunity to include your child as a playing participant for the 2026 Season and many more to come "

But most of all the children of Calimesa will finally have a program that they can call their own and be proud to play for in All Stars and other CYNS Tournaments. "

SHETLAND LEVEL BASEBALL FIELD

NO PITCHING / BASES: 50ft

LEVEL 5 SAFETY BALL

The Shetland level is the start of our baseball journey. SHETLAND is geared for children who have NOT previously played baseball and are looking to start. The main objective of Shetland is an instructional level to teach players the fundamentals of baseball by the simplest method possible - letting them play the game. Shetland (T-Ball) is the very start of baseball for most kids in our association. Kids from ages 4-5-6 are often getting their first taste of organized baseball, and in some cases, organized sports in general. This is an absolutely crucial time in the development of young baseball players, coaches and parents alike. If kids have a bad experience in T-ball, then the chances of them wanting to play in the higher leagues are minimal. Working as a team, coaches and parents have an obligation to do everything possible to make practices and games fun, safe, learning experiences for our kids. Coaches at this level must spend the majority of time working on the fundamentals of throwing, catching, fielding, hitting and game situations. Winning DOES NOT MATTER at this age level. We do not keep score for a reason. The purpose of the Shetland league is to teach players the fundamental skills necessary to advance to Pinto. Teams will use a Tee Ball safe Level 1 baseball and Batting Tee. There are no outs. Every player hits a single every at bat, until the last batter each inning clears the bases with a GRAND SLAM!! The Shetland level is great fun, but the kids need to be ready to play and the parents need to be involved. This is a Team Sport, and not a drop-off activity or daycare. It typically takes 4-6 coaches/parents to effectively run a Shetland practice or game. Parents should be practicing baseball skills at home. CYBS has formatted the league to emphasize basic instruction in all aspects of fundamental baseball. To help develop the overall skill of each player, a thirty minute instructional session is incorporated at the beginning of each game. This instructional session will focus on the basics of throwing, fielding, hitting and base running in a fun and positive environment.
